What is so special about this coffee?

Kona is a fantastic coffee, hand-picked by experienced pickers who select only the ripest cherries. The warm, rich volcanic soil and beautiful Hawaiian sun dries the beans, giving this coffee an incomparable flavor.

These coffee cherries are meticulously sorted by size and specially selected for Kona coffee of Fancy grade. This means that all beans are screen size 17/18 with very little to no defect. The selection process of this Guadeloupe Typica variety provides a super flavorful and tasty cup of coffee.

Volcanic rich-soil for an extraordinary coffee

This delicious coffee is grown in the heart of Hawaii's volcanic and mysterious mountains. Each bean has been carefully cultivated near Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano. The volcanic soil upon which the Cancino farm lies provides the nutrients and vitamins necessary for the optimal growth and flavors we enjoy in Kona coffee.

About the Cancino Farm

Mr. Raynoldo Cancino is an immigrant from Mexico. of very humble origin. Twenty-two years ago, he came for the first time to Kona to work as a coffee picker. Because of his cleverness and hard work ethic, he bought a small plot of land on the slopes of Mauna Loa where he started to produce his own coffee.

A few years later, he used all his savings to set up a processing mill on his property. Later, he started to support and buy coffee from other smaller producers, and his company began to proliferate. Now, all his family works and is involved in the coffee business. Mr. Cancino is a prime example of a person who achieved the American Dream.

As the sun breaks over the glorious green slopes of Mauna Loa in Kona, Hawaii, you will find Cancino Family Farm hard at work. The land itself seems to wake up and greet the sun, as the dew mist lifts coffee plants perk up after the dark night. Birds, bees, pigs, and a myriad of insects join us as we work.

You see, it isn’t just a bit of land that provides the delicious coffee we grow; it is the unique environment of Kona that infuses a richness in every bean. Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano in the world, is known for its rich volcanic soil. Farming is a noble effort, intertwining people’s lives with the land to form a bond unlike any other. Work and reward go hand in hand when it comes to farming. It is one of the vocations that we deeply respect because successful crops depend on courage, planning, learning, dedication and a lot of cooperation from mother nature.

Many years ago, Cancino Family Farm began by focusing on small, underperforming farms helping them reach their full potential. We grew, farm after farm, by replanting, practicing good management, diversifying our farming methods, and protecting the environment. Rather than taxing the land to produce the maximum by chemicals and mechanical equipment, our approach is to help the ecology flourish while still producing higher yields. We have grown to over 350 acres under cultivation and continue to assist other farms to achieve the same success. In this way, we also help grow a community. Our approach reflects family values: when the community prospers, this is a benefit to all families.

An important aspect of Kona coffee quality is the harvesting and processing of the beans. During the coffee harvest our pickers hand select the ripest and reddest coffee cherries. Each evening we pulp the cherry and lay the parchment on our dying platforms. A few days drying under Hawaii’s tropical sunshine ensures a naturally flavorful cup of coffee. Our state-of-the-art dry mill quickly turns the parchment into quality green beans.
