Special Farming Practices

Tucked away in the Andes, Ebéjico is a hidden gem in Antioquia, home to over 1,600 coffee-growing families dedicated to preserving Colombia’s rich coffee heritage. Though lesser-known than its neighboring villages, this town thrives on the passion of smallholders committed to producing exceptional coffee that blends tradition, quality, and value.

Nestled in the high-altitude terrain of the Andes, Ebéjico’s unique terroir provides ideal conditions for cultivating traditional coffee. Farmers here follow precise practices, including hand-picking only the ripest cherries, guaranteeing it’s world famous flavor and quality in every batch.

Ebéjico as a Specialty Washed Coffee Supplier

At the heart of this origin is Juan David, a passionate young entrepreneur revitalizing the coffee industry in Ebéjico through the Los Cedros buying center. His dedication to supporting local farmers, building a thriving community, and inspiring future generations of coffee growers shines through in every cup.

Ebéjico is home to a small  network of parchment buying centers, including our partner, Los Cedros. Focused on excellence, Los Cedros prioritizes the physical quality of green coffee beans, understanding that better beans result in better roasts—and ultimately, an exceptional cup.

Los Cedros is committed to offering farmers competitive prices for their hard work. Using the FNC (National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia) price benchmark, they reward farmers with bonuses for delivering high-quality beans. As a result, the purchase price for coffee from Ebéjico adjusts in line with market rates.

Their efforts, however, extend beyond visual inspections and pricing. Led by their Q-Grader, Octavio, Los Cedros conducts in-depth quality evaluations to uphold the highest standards. This comprehensive approach ensures every bean meets the expectations of specialty coffee buyers.

Advancing Coffee Quality Through Education

A key part of Los Cedros’ approach is education, empowering farmers to understand the qualities that define exceptional coffee and how to enhance them for better results. Los Cedros’s buying station manager, Don Nicolás, oversees the testing of each coffee bag that arrives. He ensures that everything purchased represents premium quality and consistency, while at the same time fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that strengthens relationships with farmers.

As a pioneer in specialty coffee, Los Cedros supports farmers through every step of the production process. In 2024, they hosted the first-ever specialty coffee competition in Ebéjico, highlighting the region’s exceptional coffee quality and giving farmers the recognition they deserve.

Dozens of farmers submitted their lotes, with 15 being selected in a semi final. Of the 15 semifinalists, 5 were chosen as finalists and sold at auction. We purchased the first place winner of this competition so that you could taste the best that Ebejico has to offer.
