Java Sunda Hejo - Galuh Campaka

Cupping Notes: Strawberry, Apple, Kiwi

This is a fully washed micro-lot from smallholder farmers in the Ciwidey subregion of Sunda, Western Java, Indonesia.

The lot is made up with coffee from 40 smallholder farmers who deliver cherry to Tenjolaya Ciwidey washing station.  Farms are typically 1.5 ha in size and culitivate the varieties of Catimor and Tim-Tim at an altitude of 1300 masl.

Red ripe cherries are floated to sort by density so that only the densest, highest quality cherries are used for processing this top lot.  Selected cherries are pulped within 6 hours of harvest and then dry fermented for 16 hours to break down the remaining sugary mucilage.  The coffee is then thoroughly washed before patio drying for approximately 10 days, or until the optimum moisture content is reached.

The Sunda region, named after the eponymous Sundanese ethnic group, is located in Western Java.  Campaka Mulya is a sub-region with a rich history as part of the kingdom of Sunda.  Its history is written on 47 pages of ancient script covering 16 centuries of the Parahyangan story.  During the Dutch colonial era the area was used as a radio station from 1816.
